Introducing the parkrun timer - A Portable Electronic Race and Event Timer

Do you regularly need to record the times for a small to medium race or events?
Do you have fewer than 1,000 participants?
Do you want to collect all the finish times accurately and immediately?
Do you want to move away from collecting these times by hand and re-typing this into a spreadsheet?

parkrun and ERS have combined forces to solve this problem for you!

parkrun timer

With the ERS parkrun timer you can accurately record the finish times of hundreds or even thousands of participants and automatically review these in a spreadsheet, saving you loads of time and preventing errors.

We have developed this low cost solution because there are no equivalent options available on the market at a suitable price.

Here is how it works…

The parkrun timer application software has been developed for the OPN2002, a programmable data collection device with 1MB memory for data storage.

The parkrun timer software for this device allows participant's times to be logged using simple button presses as summarised below:

STEP 1 – PREPARE TO START THE EVENT/RACE

To prepare for the start of an event/race, press and hold the main trigger button for approx 6 seconds.
During this period the devices LED will illuminate amber and the beeper will sound continuously. After approximately 6 seconds the beeper will sound in an upward frequency sweep to signify that the event/race has been started and the data collector is now ready to log times. A record will automatically be stored in memory signifying a new event/race has started.

STEP 2 – START THE EVENT/RACE

Press the button at the same time as the starter sets off the event/race to record that this event/race has started. A record is stored against position 0 signifying the start of the event/race.

STEP 3 - LOG TIMES

To store the time for successive event/race positions press the device trigger button once for each time to be logged. The data collector will beep and store the position (starting at Position 0) and the associated time in memory.

STEP 4 - END THE EVENT

On completion of the event/race press and hold the trigger button for 6 seconds. The device will emit a continuous beep for 6 seconds and then sound the beep in an upward frequency sweep to signify that the end of event has been recorded. A record signifying the end f the event/race will be stored in memory. The device is now ready to record a new event/race.

To download stored data from the device simply connect to the PC USB port using the cable provided, or place the device into an empty slot in the multi-way cradle.

Within a few seconds the parkrun timer software will detect the connected device and proceed to download stored data.
